6G-MUSICAL Technology Takes the Spotlight at MWP 2026 Plenary in Japan!

As August comes to a close, 6G-MUSICAL is proud to highlight its participation in one of the leading international events focused on the future of microwave photonics and high-frequency communications.

From 24–27 August 2026, the 2026 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics (MWP 2026) took place in Matsue, Japan, bringing together researchers and experts working at the intersection of microwave engineering, photonics and advanced wireless communications.

A key highlight of the event was a plenary address delivered by Prof. Izzat Darwazeh of University College London (UCL), who was one of the three plenary speakers at MWP 2026.

Connecting 6G-MUSICAL with the future of Tbit/s and THz communications

Prof. Darwazeh’s plenary, entitled “Electronics and photonics enablers for Tbit/s and THz communications; Circuits and subsystems new and very old techniques”, explored the technologies and engineering approaches needed to enable the next generation of ultra-high-speed wireless communications.

The presentation addressed emerging approaches for communications at frequencies approaching 1 THz and data rates nearing 1 Tbit/s, highlighting advances in photonic-assisted electronics, high-frequency circuit design, optical frequency combs, analogue signal processing and novel waveform techniques.

Importantly, the presentation also featured 6G-MUSICAL technology, bringing the project’s research and innovations to an international audience of experts in microwave photonics and future communications.

The talk highlighted how the convergence of electronics, photonics and advanced wireless technologies can help overcome the bandwidth and frequency limitations facing future communication systems — a direction closely aligned with the ambitions of 6G-MUSICAL.

Why does this matter for 6G-MUSICAL?

Participation in high-profile international events such as MWP 2026 helps extend the reach of 6G-MUSICAL research beyond the project consortium and into the wider scientific and engineering community.

By showcasing 6G-MUSICAL technologies in a plenary dedicated to Tbit/s and THz communications, the project contributes to the broader discussion on how future wireless systems can deliver:

  • Extremely high data rates, approaching the Tbit/s era;
  • Higher-frequency communications, including sub-THz and THz technologies;
  • New electronics and photonics architectures for high-bandwidth systems;
  • More spectrally efficient communication techniques and novel waveforms; and
  • The integration of established engineering principles with emerging technologies to address the challenges of next-generation connectivity.

Such visibility supports the project’s dissemination, networking and knowledge-exchange objectives, while creating opportunities for dialogue with researchers and stakeholders working on complementary technologies for 6G and beyond.

Closing August with 6G-MUSICAL on the international stage

With its technology reaching a global expert audience in Matsue, Japan, 6G-MUSICAL closes August with another important step in bringing its research to the international community.

We are delighted to see Prof. Izzat Darwazeh representing and showcasing 6G-MUSICAL research at MWP 2026 and contributing to the conversation on the technologies that will shape Tbit/s and THz communications of the future.
