6G-MUSICAL Showcases Research at IEEE Radar Conference 2024
The 6G-MUSICAL project participated in the IEEE Radar Conference 2024, held from May 6 to 10, 2024. Professor Christos Masouros and Dr Matthew Ritchie from University College London (UCL), a key partner in the project, led a highly anticipated tutorial titled “Multi-Function RF Systems for Radar and Communications: Signal Processing, Prototyping, and Experiments.”
This tutorial addressed the increasing demand for multi-functional RF systems that can seamlessly integrate radar and communication capabilities in an energy, hardware, and spectrum-efficient manner. The session underscored the growing relevance of Dual-Functional Radar-Communication (DFRC) systems in the evolving landscape of wireless communications. As industries gear up for the 6G era, major companies like Ericsson, Nokia, and Intel have highlighted the crucial role of sensing in their 6G visions.

The 6G-MUSICAL project is dedicated to revolutionizing edge infrastructure in 6G networks by incorporating RF/radar-based radio-sensing elements. These innovations aim to achieve highly efficient, multi-frequency communication integrated with precise sensing and localization. The session’s insights at the conference align with the 6G-MUSICAL mission to explore cutting-edge system architectures and signals that will drive the future of 6G.
The IEEE Radar Conference, known for its focus on radar innovation, provided an ideal platform to discuss and promote research in this critical field. The tutorial highlighted the advancements in multi-function RF systems and sparked discussions on the future applications of this technology in smart cities, urban security, and intelligent transportation.
