The 6G-MUSICAL project is proud to have been represented at the prestigious International Workshop on Physical Layer Technologies for Sustainable and Multifunctional Wireless Networks, held on September 25–27, 2024, in Fukuoka, Japan.

Prof. Christos Masouros, Fellow IEEE and Professor at UCL, was invited to deliver two insightful lectures highlighting recent advancements in physical layer technologies, with a special focus on sustainability and integrated multifunctionality in next-generation wireless networks.

Presentations by Prof. Masouros:

1. Physical Layer Technologies for Sustainable and Multi-functional Wireless Networks
   This talk introduced advanced symbol-level precoding (SLP) techniques that exploit interference constructively to achieve significant energy savings. Prof. Masouros outlined how SLP can transform communication systems into highly energy-efficient solutions — a critical pillar for achieving net-zero emission goals in 6G networks.

2. Part II: Sustainability Through Hardware Reuse and Multifunctionality
   In this follow-up lecture, Prof. Masouros focused on Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC), a transformative paradigm that allows wireless signals to serve both sensing and communication purposes. This dual-functionality offers major gains in hardware reuse, spectral efficiency, and carbon footprint reduction — aligning closely with 6G-MUSICAL’s mission to develop multi-functional and sustainable wireless solutions.

About the Workshop:

Hosted at JR Hakata City in Fukuoka, the event brought together leading researchers from across the globe to discuss breakthroughs in communication and sensing technologies, localization, signal processing, and more. The workshop served as a platform for sharing cutting-edge research that addresses both the technical and sustainability challenges of 6G networks.
